It is not enough to try to align one’s mind with reality.  As people of faith, we hold that we must also align our speech and actions with what we perceive to be true in our minds.  Societies crumble when people are not honest about what they know and when they behave in hypocritical ways.  In daily life we make thousands of decisions trusting that what other people tell us is accurate to the best of their capacity.  We drive over bridges trusting the engineer was truthful with the construction team. We go into surgery trusting the surgical tools have been sanitized as promised.  When dishonesty is tolerated and people can no longer believe what each other says, communities fall apart and lives are endangered.  Honesty matters.  Integrity matters.  We cannot enjoy the abundant life God wants for us without truthfulness.
