Having your mind aligned with reality and forming good opinion

The philosopher Aristotle described truth as having a mind aligned with reality.  Our brains are small; reality is immense!  We will never grasp all that could be known and want to keep ourselves open to learning new information.  At the same time, as people of faith we know that it is important to see things as they really are.  Just because we don’t “believe in” something (eg. gravity, climate change, the effectiveness of vaccines, etc.) does not mean that these things don’t exist.   Our love for truth requires that we always be trying to make sure our minds are aligned with the best information available. We remain ready to change our minds if new, more accurate information surfaces.  We trust that the ongoing quest to know what is real and abandon what is false helps us to form better judgments about how to live the abundant life God wants for us.  Indeed, it draws us closer to God’s very self.  The physical and social sciences are not our enemies but rather our aides in living our commitment to seek truth.
